Mostly Outside

Walking, hiking, gardening, horse riding, bird watching, nature watching … mostly I like to spend time outside. I head outside to recharge. Also writing and reading, mostly about those things that I like to do outside. Join me as I explore my little corner of the world, which is in the south-west corner of Australia.

A bit more about me

I am interested in the places, both physical and ideological, where people and nature intersect, where our biological reality meets our modern selves. Regardless of how clever our technology becomes, we remain intricately caught in natural rhythms and cycles. I’m interested in what that means for us as individuals, for humanity as a whole, and for the planet we call home.

I’m privileged to make my living from writing. I did a BSc in biology, followed it with a Graduate Diploma in Journalism, and fell into a career as a science writer. Mostly I have worked as a freelancer. I have been fortunate to work with leading researchers from across many disciplines, mainly in environmental, agricultural and life sciences. I have worked ‘behind the scenes’ on many publications, and you can also find my by-line in many magazines. I am a regular contributor to Farming Ahead, Outback, and Horses and People, among others.

When I’m not working on commissioned writing projects, I spend time developing my own writing projects. I am based in Perth, Western Australia and work from a home office overlooking a small frog pond.
